The Thackery Point is the first ever appendectomy procedure performed by Dr. John Thackery. He performed this medical procedure in front of Dr. William Halsted (from Baltimore) and Dr. J.M. Christiansen, at the Knickerbocker Hospital.

The procedure is as follows:

  1. First accurately determine the location of the appendix (no matter the age or sex of the patient). Do this by dividing the midway point between the anterior-superior iliac spine and the umbilicus, and make an incision parallel to the fibers of the external oblique muscle.
  2. Retrieve the appendix and detach from the colon.

Thackery successfully performed this surgery in front of many colleagues during the episode Start Calling Me Dad (Season 1, Episode 7).
